Ladies Who Proposed: We Want to Hear Every Last Detail

In Depth

Welcome to Pop The Question, a weekly space to dissect every aspect of wedding madness. Each Tuesday, we’ll ask a question (sometimes there might even be a poll!), you’ll share answers and stories, and then we’ll bring you the best of the bunch on Thursdays. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll fly into a total rage over something that doesn’t actually matter … it will be just like your wedding day.

Are you a woman who asked for your partner’s hand in marriage? Gay, straight, either way — this week’s Pop The Question is devoted to your stories of, well, popping the question to your significant other. Did you get down on bended knee? Was there a phone call to his or her father? At any point, was a Jumbotron part of the equation? (I will not apologize for my love of Jumbotron engagements, no, I will not.)

Also! A reader wrote recently with a request: Could we, the loyal and devoted I Thee Dread-ers, help her figure out how to propose to her boyfriend? Apparently there’s not a whole lot out there on the old internet about women proposing to men, though surely it must happen. But, it being LGBT Pride Month, it seemed only right to not limit this PTQ to just women who propose to men. Let’s draw inspiration from all the ladies out there doing some proposing.

Tell us all about how you, the modern woman, proposed marriage and we’ll get some ideas from you when we return to this space on Thursday to enjoy the best of your stories.
