With This Ring is a Lifetime rom-com that explores the clichés of marriage pressure and surprisingly looks like it could be an enjoyable watch. In the trailer, Regina Hall, Jill Scott and Eve play single friends who make a pact to get hitched within a year after attending a wedding on New Year's Eve.
Wow, a New Year's Eve wedding sounds like a giant headache. The trio's time-sensitive search for love of course includes lots of blind dates, vibrator jokes and online dating—in one scene, Vivane (Jill Scott, playing a gossip columnist) is with a date who tells her, "You know, you look a lot smaller in your online photo."
The movie is based on the book The Vow, by Denene Millner, Angela Burt-Murray and Mitzi Miller. According to Lifetime:
...the close friends face their own set of challenges – Trista (Hall) has not gotten over her commitment-phobic ex-boyfriend Damon (White), Viviane is secretly in love with Sean (George), the father of her son, and Amaya is desperate to break up her boyfriend Keith's (Sanders) unhappy marriage so they can live happily ever after. Each woman starts the year with high hopes and dreams of what will happen over the next 12 months…but will they all make it to the altar?
Well, will they? The fact that this trailer is set to Sia's "Chandelier" is reason enough to give it a shot. The movie—directed by Nzingha Stewart (The Game); produced by Gabrielle Union and Tracey Edmunds—premieres on Jan. 24.
